Abstract

In September 2017, entering the ninth month in 2017, Metro City experienced inflation. Expenditure groups that trigger inflation are dominated by housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel with inflation of 0.1418 percent; followed by education, recreation and sports groups with an inflation contribution of 0.0261; followed by clothing group with inflation contribution of 0,0191 and followed by transportation, communication and financial services group with inflation contribution of 0.0093 percent. While the expenditure group that withstood the inflation rate in Metro City in September 2017 was the foodstuff category with deflationary contribution of 0.0764 percent; followed by finished food, beverages, cigarette and tobacco groups with a deflationary contribution of 0.0096 percent and followed by the health group with a deflationary contribution of 0.0076 percent. Changes in the index in the seven expenditure groups caused inflation in Metro City by 0.10 percent.

Commodities contributing substantial inflation during September 2017 include household fuel, rice, study guidance, squid, vegetable tomatoes, chicken meat, green chili, apples, salted fish and spinach. Based on the calculation of Consumer Price Index (CPI) in September 2017, inflation in Metro City was caused by an increase in index in the housing, water, electricity, gas and fuel group which experienced inflation of 0.61 percent; clothing and education, recreation and sports groups, each experiencing inflation of 0.34 percent and the transport, communications and financial services group experiencing inflation of 0.08 percent. Meanwhile, the group holding back the inflation rate was the foodstuff category with deflation of 0.27 percent; a health group with deflation of 0.11 percent and a group of ready-made foods, beverages, cigarettes and tobacco with a deflation of 0.05 percent.

In September 2017, based on inflation calculations from 82 cities observed in the development of prices, there were 50 cities experiencing inflation and 32 cities experiencing deflation. The highest inflation occurred in Tual at 1.59 percent, while the lowest inflation occurred in Mamuju with inflation of 0.01 percent. Meanwhile, the highest deflation occurred in Manado at 1.04 percent, while the lowest deflation occurred in Tembilahan by 0.01 percent. Metro City with 0.10 percent inflation ranked 39th nationally. Of 23 cities on the island of Sumatra, the highest inflation occurred in Medan by 1.08 percent and the lowest occurred in Dumai at 0.05 percent. Meanwhile, the highest deflation occurred in Tanjung Pandan at 0.87 percent and the lowest deflation occurred in Tembilahan by 0.01 percent. Metro City with 0.10 percent inflation ranked 15th on the island of Sumatra.
